In a game where some timely goals could have changed the momentum on several occasions, defensively lapses set the Swift Current Broncos back as they lost 5-1 to Brandon.

"In our own end we stunk," said Broncos Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Dean Brockman. "In their end I thought we had a good chances... you've got to play the full 200 feet and we didn't do a very good job of it."

Alec Zawatsky had the lone goal for Swift Current in a losing cause.

"We've got to be better," Zawatsky said. "I think we all know that. I think we've been playing good hockey lately. We didn't come out as we expected... we've just got to be better."

The Broncos found themselves on the wrong end of several short breakaways or partial breaks Brandon was able to create with their speed and quick passing.

"I didn't think our D crew as a whole played a very good game," Brockman noted. "They got caught watching the puck on the rush a little bit."

Despite that Joel Hofer kept them close and they had some chances in their own right. Down 2-1 late in the second period Alex Moar had a great look off a Matthew Culling rebound that Caden Daley blocked and turned into a Brandon goal off the rush the other way. It was an example of the counter attack which was very effective for the Wheat Kings tonight.

"We created some turnovers and did some good things," Brockman said. "But it seemed like when we didn't score we kind of rested on that a little bit."

Swift Current did put some good pressure on the Wheat Kings early in the third and couldn't capitalize. Brandon then pulled away with two more goals to snap a three game losing skid.

The Broncos wrapped up a five game home stand with the loss. They are off to Lethbridge on Friday before hosting the Wheat Kings again on Saturday night.
