Pencilled in as the alternate for Team Adam Casey, Swift Current's Jeff Chambers was in Tisdale expecting to just be watching the 2017 SaskTel Tankard Men's Provincial.

Thursday morning that all changed.

After falling in the early draw Thursday morning, Team Casey Lead Dustin Kidby suffered a separated shoulder leaving a void in the Regina rink's line-up.

Having to play the remainder of the game with just three players, Skip Adam Casey, Third Catlin Schneider and Second Shaun Meachem, the team managed to outlast Rosetown's Carl deConinck Smith 5-4.

The victory moved them into the 'A' Semi-Final, where Chambers would come out of the stands and onto the ice.

Chambers threw Lead rocks for Team Casey in their Thursday evening contest against Dale Craig of Saskatoon.

Trailing 5-4 entering the 10th end with hammer, Team Casey managed to score their pair and pick up their third straight victory, putting them into the 'A' Qualifier game against Steve Laycock.

The 'A' Qualifier game will be played at 12:00pm Friday afternoon.

Kidby's status for the contest is unknown.

Meanwhile, it was a tough day Thursday for Fox Valley's Ryan Deis at the Tankard.

After winning their opening game on Wednesday, the Deis rink dropped both of their games Thursday, dropping them into the 'C'.

Hitting the ice against Kody Hartung of Saskatoon, the Fox Valley rink surrendered a steal of two in the 2nd to fall behind early.

However, they did fight back to tie the game 4-4 after 7, but then gave up three points in the 8th, which they were never able to recover from as Hartung scored an 8-6 win.

Then, taking on Estevan's Brent Gedak Thursday evening, Deis and his team were never able to get much going.

Only able to accumulate a single in four and a single in seven, they fell 7-2 to Gedak.

Deis will now look to stay alive when he battle's North Battleford's Drew Heidt at 12:00pm Friday.
