The city of Swift Current is getting a jump on what it hopes is an eventual baseball season this year.

At last night's meeting of city council, it was unanimously agreed to renew its maintenance agreement for Mitchell Field with the Swift Current 57s baseball team.

The agreement, which remains largely unchained from previous years, also includes a fifty-fifty split maintenance agreement for the clubhouse, which had yet to be built the last time the agreement was renewed.

Some other highlights of the agreement include field maintenance duties, usage time and fees for the use of the lights at the park, as well as the upkeep of both the outfield screens to prevent home-runs from hitting houses and the hitter's screen.

For its part of the agreement, the city uses its own resources for fertilization, herbicide, minor construction repairs and other general areas.
