The Swift Current Comp Colts football team was handed their second straight loss in less than a week yesterday afternoon.

The Colts fell 42-15 to the visiting Moose Jaw Peacock Tornadoes after a 34-14 loss last Thursday to Moose Jaw Central.

Swift Current fell behind early in front of the home crowd, after a pair of Peacock touchdowns closed the first quarter at 14-0.

A third touchdown, with a missed convert, closed out the first half with the visiting Tornadoes up 20-0, and a Colts offense left scratching their heads in search of consistency and points.

"We had one first down in the first half and that's just not acceptable - we know that, and the offensive guys know that," said Colts head coach Derek Murdoch. "We've got to be able to move the ball and score - it comes down to guys just making plays out there."

The Colts appeared to adapt to the defensive positioning and game-plan of Peacock during half-time, as Colts runningback/receiver Nic Bachiu erased the zero on the scoreboard with an 80-yard touchdown to bring the score to 21-7 after a Moose Jaw rouge earlier in the third quarter.

However, that would be the only scoring until the dying seconds of the fourth, as the Colts couldn't take advantage of some favourable chances in the game.

"We actually had plays in the first half where if we connect, we score," said the Colts head coach. "We have to start executing - we've had opportunities and we have to start capitalizing on them. We've lost two football games in a row because we haven't done that."

The loss drops Swift Current to 1-2 on the season, and now face a short week of practice and recovery before a tough road match-up with the Yorkton Raiders on Saturday, September 23, at 2 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Moose Jaw Peacock Tornadoes improve to 3-0, after they opened the season with a pair of cross-city games against Central and Vanier.
