The Swift Current Broncos have been bolstered by a veteran crew on their blue line on the way to a 6-0 start.

Colby Sissons says their combined experience and familiarity with each other has been a real advantage.

"Getting that confidence the last few years, you learn a lot after your first year playing in this league, and we all kind of know where each other is going to be. We're not really feeling each other out, where most other teams might have that process. Sahv(an Khaira) and I are used to playing alongside each other, and we're using it to our advantage right now."

The Broncos have six defencemen on their roster who spent at least a season in the WHL and seven who are at least 18, and has noticeably been a big part of the team's early success.

Sissons himself is off to a great start with nine points in six games to rank him second among WHL defencemen, after a 2016-17 season where the product of Edmonton put up 28 regular-season points in 63 games, adding six in 14 playoff appearances as well.

The 6-foot-2 point-man says he's looking to pick up where former Broncos defenceman Max Lajoie left off last season.

"The last few years, I've watched Max - he's done a lot for this team the past few years, and now he hopefully kind of passed the torch down to me," Sissons said. "I'm looking to do exactly what he did. He carried this team from the back end, and that's what I'm trying to do for us."

With many familiar faces on the front end of the lineup as well, the continuity and growth from last season has been evident through the season's first six games.

Tyler Steenbergen has 19 points (13 G, 6 A), Aleksi Heponiemi also has 19 (3 G, 16 A), and Captain Glenn Gawdin has 15 points (6 G, 9 A) on the top line that has been the lightning rod in sparking the Broncos' early offensive onslaught.

"I think for us, we're just building off last year - we know what kind of players each other are and we read off each other well" said Gawdin, of the chemistry with his linemates. "Obviously they're two great players, so for me, I'm just trying to find some room and create room for them. We're playing off each other well, and looking to build on that."

The Broncos look to extend their early season winning streak when they host the Central Division leading Lethbridge Hurricanes tonight.
