With three Memorial Cup games under his belt, 49 career WHL Playoff games and almost 12,000 WHL Regular Season minutes played, Swift Current Broncos goalie Jordan Papirny has no shortage of experience heading into the 2017 post-season.

Fortunately for the Broncos, a relatively inexperienced team when it comes to the post-season, the two-time Eastern Conference champion is more than happy to talk about his past.

"Guys have come up to me ever since day one that I have been here and just ask about playoffs, winning a championship, the Memorial Cup and what that was like so I share my experiences and tell them it is something I will never forget," he said.

"You build such a tight bond with those teammates and I always say that we have the group that we can do that. We have such a tight knit group and so much character in that room. This is a team I want to win a championship with."

Friday night, Papirny will start his 50th career WHL Playoff game as the Broncos make their return to the post-season and battle the Moose Jaw Warriors.

Having played 2948 playoff minutes, the Edmonton native has learned a quick start to every series is crucial.

"I think you just have to understand the importance of game one, the first ten minutes sets the tone of the whole series," he said.

"Obviously we are going to be on the road so they are going to have the fans behind them, so we will need to come out banging and establish a really good forecheck to take the crowd out of it immediately, start funnelling pucks and take over the series in the first five minutes."

When Swift Current acquired Papirny from the Brandon Wheat Kings earlier this year, it was with the playoffs in mind.

Not only were the Broncos getting one of the best netminders in the WHL over the past four seasons, they were also getting a veteran who knows his way around the post-season.

Over those four seasons, Papirny has posted a .907 save percentage, while adding .910 a save percentage in his 49 playoff starts.

Entering the series against Moose Jaw though, Swift Current will not be the only team with a confident goalie.

In the Warriors crease will be back-to-back Eastern Conference goaltender of the year, Zach Sawchenko.

Although only having ten games of playoff experience, all coming last season, Sawchenko put up a .911 save percentage in those ten contests, to go along with his career save percentage of .908.

"I don't really look into it to much," Papirny said when asked about opposing Sawchenko.

"I try to just focus on myself, the things going on in my head and in the crease. I have enough there to keep so busy so I'll just do my thing."

Despite all of the attention that can be drawn towards the two goalies in the series, Papirny knows Moose Jaw boasts much more than just a strong netminder.

"They have some really skilled forwards and a lot of guys that can put the puck in the back of the net," he said.

"For us, it is just worrying about our defensive zone. I have always believed that good defence leads to good offence so if we can really buy into that, have some structure in our own end and play the right way, I think the offence will come and we will win a lot of games 3-2."

The Broncos are looking for their first playoff series victory since the 2007-08 season, when they defeated the Regina Pats in six games.

Since then, Swift Current has dropped six straight playoff series.

Breaking that streak against Moose Jaw will not be an easy task for the Broncos, and will require them to do all of the little things right to have success.

"They say defence wins championships, so I'd say we just have to be tight defensively," he said.

"We have to really limit their chances, we have to box out, block shots and do all of those little details, make those sacrifices and ultimately those little things add up and lead to championships. If we do those things right, I think we are going to have a lot of success."

Regardless of what transpires in this year's playoff run, Papirny understands the unpredictable nature of the playoffs and the mentality required to win.

"You are obviously going to lose games that is the way it is, it's not perfect, you are not going to go 16-0," he said.

"It is the teams that respond and have a real short memory, it's a seven game series for a reason. If we lose games or things don't go well, it is just important to respond and understand that we have a really good team that can make a big impact."

With game one of the series set for Friday night from Moose Jaw, game two will be played Saturday also at Mosaic Place.

Games three and four will then be played at the Credit Union iPlex on Tuesday and Wednesday.

You can hear all of the action all series long live on The Eagle 94.1 with Robertson Family Group Broncos Hockey.

Game one's broadcast will begin at 6:30pm from Moose Jaw.
