Swift Current Minor Football is set to return for another season, and the early bird registration deadline is fast approaching.

The early bird deadline to register is on June 15th.

Darwin Gooding, with SCMF says the program has helped to develop young talent in Swift Current.

"Some kids are just naturally good athletes and they can figure out how to tackle people or get off a block, but just the comprehension alone is huge for them," he said. "To give these kids a bit of an idea of what exactly the rules of football are and how the game is supposed to be played before they get into football at the high school level. To have four or five years under your belt before getting to the high school level makes you that much stronger of a player."

Gooding also added that the league is continuing to get more athletes with each passing year.

"They really have," he said. "Our league has grown a lot over the last few years. We have seen the addition of teams coming in from Shaunavon and Gull Lake to play in our league. A lot of the kids had played in the league anyways and travelling back and forth, but now they have enough kids to form their own teams and practise in Shaunavon or Gull Lake and just come to town for games."

Both girls and boys between the ages of 9 and 15 (as of December 31, 2017) can register for Swift Current Minor Football.
