Former Swift Current Broncos head coach Brad McEwen has been named Hockey Canada's head scout for the Under-17, Under-18, and World Junior programs.

In McEwen's time with the Broncos, he served as assistant coach for two years (1998-99, 1999-00), as well as the GM/head coach for two non-consecutive one year stints (2000-01, 2002-03). In the year between being the Broncos' GM/bench boss, the Whitewood, SK native served solely as the general manager for the organization. In the process, McEwen was awarded the Lloyd Saunders Memorial Trophy as the 2001-02 WHL Executive of the Year.

The newly-appointed head scout's first task as part of Hockey Canada will be selecting Canada's 2017 National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team.

The U-18 team will be competing at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup in Breclav, Czech Republic, and Bratislava, Slovakia, August 7-12.
