With a raucous Fairview crowd behind them, the Full Line Ag Broncos swarmed their goalie Amaya Giraudier as the final seconds ticked off the clock Wednesday night, and they began to celebrate.

The fifth seed entering the playoffs, the Broncos finished off their unlikely run with a 3-1 win over the Regina Capitals to sweep away Regina and claim the South Saskatchewan Female Midget 'AA' League championship.

"The kids were just determined," Broncos Head Coach Dexter Wilson said following the victory.

"They had it in their mind that they wanted to win this series at home, and I can't believe it but they did it."

After falling behind 1-0 to the Capitals, Swift Current was not phased, in fact, it was a position they had become very familiar with in the post season.

Once Regina scored the opening goal of the game, the Broncos had fallen behind in the sixth of their eight playoff games.

"The kids again came back from behind," he said.

"We started nervous but we seemed to battle through it. A come from behind win though has kind of been the way the year has went."

Despite giving up the first goal of the game, Swift Current was able to respond early in the second period.

Kalea Sauder scored just over a minute into the middle frame to put the Broncos back on even ground, which is how the score remained after two periods of play.

Just under five minutes into the third, Chelsea Wilson nearly caused the roof to blow off of Fairview's West side.

Wilson gave the Broncos their first lead of the game and put them just under 15 minutes away from a league title.

Then with exactly 2:22 left to play, Courtney Funk put the finishing touches on Swift Current's playoff run, finding the back of the net and putting the Broncos up 3-1.

Despite there still being time on the clock, people within the rink began to sense it was going to be the Bronco's night.

Wilson noted the fan support at Fairview was tremendous all playoffs and especially Wednesday night.

"It is almost overwhelming, what a great thing to have that support in Swift Current," he said.

"I think there is support here from all of the surrounding towns as well which contributes to the program. I just think it is great."

Although comebacks were the theme of the playoffs for Swift Current, it also summed up their regular season as well.

"I remember writing our record on the board earlier this year, it was 1-5-1, so to come from that to now, we finished on a seven game winning streak in league and our record in our last ten games was 8-1-1, it is just incredible," Wilson said.

With the league title, the Full Line Ag Broncos just simply add to what has been a banner year for Swift Current Minor Hockey.

Earlier this month, the SWT Pee Wee 'AA' Broncos won the South Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League and are currently competing in the Pee Wee 'AA' Provincial Final, while the Kabos Bantam 'AA' Broncos won the Saskatchewan Bantam 'AA' Hockey League, as well as the provincial title, and will be off to Western's at the end of the month.

"It has definitely been a thought," Wilson said about adding to the city's minor hockey success this year.

"It's not pressure, but you certainly want to contribute. It says a lot about the coaching staff in Swift Current and the kids. Swift Current certainly has a great program."

Having to defeat the fourth seed in the Parkland Lions, the league's top ranked team in the Estevan Panthers and finally, the second ranked Regina Capitals, it was all quite a bit for Wilson to comprehend after the game.

"It hasn't sunk in yet, but it is definitely a huge accomplishment," he said.
