Less than a day after scoring two goals in a come-from-behind Broncos win over the rival Regina Pats last night, forward Andrew Fyten is on the move.

In a deal made official over the noon hour, the Broncos alternate captain is headed to the Edmonton Oil Kings in exchange for a conditional fifth-rounder in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft.

"It was very difficult for us," said Broncos Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Dean Brockman. "Andrew was as big part of our team not just this year but last year with the run. He was a great ambassador and a great leader. I think the process was when your older guys have an opportunity to go to teams that want to make the playoffs. This gives him an opportunity to play closer to home. It was something he desired... he did a great job for us. We really appreciate his efforts."

Fyten has career-highs of eight goals and 17 points already this season, having suited up in 27 games for the Broncos. Any possible return in the deal was somewhat hampered by the fact that most playoff level teams in the league have their three overage players and Edmonton was the only one close to Fyten's Didsbury, Alberta home with that kind of opportunity.

"We felt that maybe the timing could have come a little bit later," Brockman said. "But at the same breath you don't want to deny that opportunity for him."

Fyten and Max Patterson had been Swift Current's top two centres this season and now both have moved on to contenders. That means some younger players will have to step up in those types of roles.

"We've got young guys now that we don't consider rookies anymore," Brockman noted. "We need some of our young guys to get more valuable minutes and play against difficult players and try and get their game to a point where we really feel comfortable next season that they're going to be a big part of it."

Brockman added that they may look at bringing up some of their younger players to fill out a roster that now has only 12 forwards. He wouldn't rule out any further additions either.

Fyten now heads back to his home province, and the Central Division, after playing the first two-and-a-half seasons of his career with the Calgary Hitmen.

Calgary dealt him to Swift Current before last season's deadline for a third round draft pick. Fyten posted a combined 30 points in 84 games split between the regular season, playoffs, and the Memorial Cup.

His last game as a Bronco was one of his best and a nice way to go out after a first star peformance in front of the home crowd.

Fyten joins an Oil Kings squad that's jostling for a prime playoff position in the Central Division standings.

The Oil Kings (16-12-4-2) are tied for second in the Central with the Lethbridge Hurricanes (16-9-4-2), though they've played three more games than their southern Alberta opponent.

Swift Current starts life without Fyten tomorrow night at home against Prince Albert.
