"I just know I had an angel watching over me tonight."

With a heavy heart Matteo Gennaro played the game of his life lifting the Swift Current Broncos to a 3-2 double overtime win over the Moose Jaw Warriors in Game 4 tonight.

Gennaro lost close friend Stephen Wack in the tragic Humboldt Broncos bus crash last week and saluted him with a point to the sky when called out as the first star at the end of the thrilling contest.

"I don't really have any words," Gennaro said. "It was pretty special to be a part of... we went through some extreme adversity today. We don't really feel like the calls were going our way and we had countless opportunities in OT. I'm just proud of the group. We weren't going to be denied tonight. That was a huge game and we needed that for sure."

Stuart Skinner made 51 saves for the win in Swift Current's goal. Brody Willms was also very solid with 39 saves for Moose Jaw.

The Broncos lost star forward Tyler Steenbergen to an injury in the first period. It appeared to happen when he was hit by a Sahvan Khaira shot in front of the Warriors net.

The series is now tied heading to Moose Jaw for Game 5 on Friday.

"I think the first feeling is relief," said Broncos Associate Coach Ryan Smith. "If you drop this you're really behind the 8-ball heading into Friday's game down 3-1. That's a tough task on anyone against the best team in the league. When that goal went in the first thought personally is relief... you get worried when you go that deep into overtime because anything can happen at that point."

Gennaro opened the scoring on the rebound of a Giorgio Estephan jam play on the power play. It was a quick nine second power play for the Broncos who took a 1-0 lead after the frist period.

Moose Jaw seemed to take momentum in the second period getting goals from Tanner Jeannot and Jett Woo. Swift Current fell off their game in the period and re-grouped heading into the third.

"We talked to the group that we had one period left and to make it our best period," Smith said. "We got that early goal to kind of settle us in, but they played well. They were very good. They had a number of opportunities... both goalies were really good tonight I thought."

That's when Gennaro struck again on a power play goal right through Wllms' legs with Estephan providing the screen.

"Just putting the period behind you," Gennaro said. "You gotta have a short memory in playoffs. You can't dwell on mistakes, shifts or periods that don't go your way. We just knew we had better and were extra determined to get the job done."

Both teams had their share of chances throughout the rest of regulation and overtime.

Moose Jaw outshot the Broncos 9-5 and had control of the play for a lot of the first overtime, while the Broncos were the better team in the second overtime and had a 13-8 shot advantage.

"I couldn't even feel my legs in that last period," Gennaro said. "You're just going off adrenaline.  You're going off the support of your buddies and you don't want to let them down."

Swift Current played most of the game double shifting their top two defensive pairs. They seemed to handle the very significant work load.

"They played well they kept it simple," Smith said. "At a certain point it's unfair to put our younger guys out there so went with our four veteran guys. We knew we didn't play tomorrow so we wanted to ride our guys to the limit. They'll be sore and tired, but after a win you always feel better."

The Broncos had the better of the special teams battle going 2 for 4 on the power play, while holding the Warriors to 0 for 5. That includes a big first overtime penalty kill and a third period 4 on 3.

Tonight's overtime game came exactly a year after the Broncos beat Regina in a triple overtime Game 4 last spring.

The series now shifts to Mosaic Place in Moose Jaw for Game 5 on Friday and a guaranteed Game 6 this Saturday in Swift Current. Tickets go on sale Thursday morning at 9:00am for Game 6. Season ticket holders have until 1:00pm on Friday to purchase their seats.
