They have been arguably the best team in the country throughout the season, and now they stand in the way of the Swift Current Broncos and the third round of the WHL Playoffs.

Thursday night, the Broncos will begin their best of seven series against the Regina Pats trying to take down Goliath

All throughout the year, the Pats have been a model of consistency, using their high-powered offence to propel themselves to a 52-12-7-1 record during the regular season.

"Our game is based on speed and putting pressure on the other teams defence," Pats Head Coach John Paddock said.

"We like to get on top of them and use the assets that we have."

Assets are one thing Regina has no shortage of.

The Pats finished the regular season with five different 30-goal scorers, as well as six different players to reach the 80 point mark.

Led by Anaheim's 2016 1st round selection, Sam Steel and Toronto Maple Leafs 2016 4th round pick Adam Brooks, Regina posted a league leading 353 goals this season, averaging 4.9 goals per game.

Steel posted 50 goals and 81 assists for a total of 131 points, while Brooks finished just behind his teammate with 43 goals and 87 assists for 130 points.

Regina's offence is one of the key reasons as to why the Pats were viewed as a favourite to make a run in the WHL Playoffs going as far back as September.

Paddock says that being a team with lofty expectations has helped them build towards their playoff push.

"I think when we had some winning streaks, there was a determination not to let it stop, but in saying that I do think the playoffs are a different animal," he said.

"Being a favourite in September when you are seven or eight months from the playoffs or a league championship isn't really the same, it builds as the season goes on. We felt that during the course of the season at times, the desperation to win but the playoffs is a different level."

The Past went on multiple winning streaks throughout the season.

Seven different times they won three or more games in a row, including three different streaks that hit the eleven game mark.

Regina is currently on a twelve game winning streak dating back to the regular season as they prepare for the Broncos.

During the regular season the Broncos and Pats met eight times, with Regina controlling the season series.

The Pats won seven of the eight contests in regulation with Swift Current winning once in overtime.

Despite outscoring the Broncos 43-18 in those eight games, Paddock is not expecting such a big differential in the playoffs.

"They (Swift Current) are playing very well," he said.

"There are some guys, Khaira on defence is playing the best I've seen all year and their top four defence are playing very well period. What I would call their first four forwards with no slight to anybody else, Gawdin, Steenbergen, Pederson and Lindgren are doing an unbelievable job. They are playing both ends of the ice and that makes them a very good team."

For Swift Current competing with Regina's offence is hard enough given the numbers they put up, but they also have a strong goalie to deal with as well.

In the Pats four wins over Calgary during their first round series, Tyler Brown posted a 1.50 goals against average and a .947 save percentage.

"It's another playoff series, I think it is going to be extremely hard fought," Paddock said.

"It'll be a very tight series."

Games one and two between the Broncos and Pats will be played on Thursday and Friday in Regina with games three and four in Swift Current on Monday and Tuesday.
