Tuesday night saw players, parents, coaches, and umpires gather for the third-annual Swift Current Minor Ball AGM & Awards banquet.

Kevin Pateneau, the president of Swift Current minor ball talked about why they like to host this event every year.

"It's just a way we can showcase our players," Pateneau said. "It's a way to get parents out, and really the players out as well and just to recognize all the players winning these awards. We've had a lot of success in Swift Current, kids playing at such a high level, it's just a way we can kind of show, what these kids are doing and more importantly it gives the community a chance to come and listen to what we are trying to do, and what we are doing and have a voice. If they think we need some changes, we want them to have an opportunity, to speak out and help us out, cause we are always looking for help."

335 players were registered in minor ball this year, a number that has been steady for the last couple years.

Over 45 players from Swift Current participated in either Double A ball or Triple A ball.

Patemeau said one of the highlights of the year was to see four players from Swift Current represent Team Saskatchewan.

"It's tough to get on those teams, players making those teams and representing Swift Current and representing Saskatchewan it's a really awesome, like the competition to get on a team that's picking the very best players throughout the whole province is tough, so to have kids make those teams, is really good and we are going to see lots of kids, at a higher level as we keep going, and we are producing really young ball players that will be making these teams in the future as well, it just shows what we are doing at the groundworks is working."

As for next season to go along with new Mosquito and Peewee managers, Pateneau said they don’t plan on making any major changes.

"We are going to see improved batting cages, and just working on a few improvements to the facilities but there won't be any major changes."

They will be looking for a new Rally Cap and Mosquito head division leader.

This was Pateneau last year as president, but he will still stay on the board with a new role. Every two years a new president is named.

Pat Rokochy will take over Kevin Pateneau.
