There will be a hometown team at the Senior Men’s Curling Provincial championship in Swift Current later this month.

Down to his final chance, Max Kirkpatrick punched his ticket to the provincial with a 7-6 victory over Lampman's Mark Walter.

Kirkpatrick and his team consisting of Third Wayne Charteris, Second Mitch Minken and Lead Greg Hannay dropped their opening game in Shaunavon, before picking up two straight wins to reach the 'B' Qualifying game.

However, a 6-4 loss to Randy Gilewich of Regina dropped the Swift Current rink into the win or go home 'C' Qualifier.

In the contest, Kirkpatrick fell behind 3-0 after two ends of play, giving up a steal of two in the first and one more in the second.

After scoring two points in the third, Kirkpatrick took his first lead of the game, stealing two in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead into the break.

Walter went on to score a deuce in the fifth, but the Swift Current responded with two of their own in six to regain a 6-5 lead.

Kirkpatrick was able to hold Walter to a single in the seventh, giving him the hammer, tied up coming home.

In the final end, the former Canadian Mixed Champion picked up a point and a 7-6 win to secure his spot in the provincial.

Kirkpatrick’s rink was the only one of three Swift Current teams to qualify, as both Rod Quintin and Clayton Wicks were unsuccessful.

The 2017 Affinity Credit Union Seniors Provincial Championship will take place in Swift Current from February 22-26.
