Four second-period goals were too much to handle, as Diamond Energy Wildcats captain Taylor Kirwan and Team Canada's Women's U18 team fell 6-2 to the United States this morning at the U18 Women's World Championships in Dmitrov, Russia.

Three of those second-period goals came in a span of six minutes to start the middle frame, giving the Americans a 4-1 lead at the time, and 5-1 lead through 40 minutes.

Kirwan finished the game with a first-period shot on net, and a -1 rating while on the third line.

The loss brings Canada's round-robin record to 1-2 after a tournament-opening loss to Russia and a shutout win over Sweden.

The loss also prevents a bye to the semi-finals for Canada, who needed a win in regulation against the Americans to secure a pass to the semis.

The Canadians now have to wait until the completion of today's schedule to see who their quarter-final and see who their quarter-final opponent will be.
