It's been about as evenly-matched of a series as you can get, though things just haven't swung in favour of the Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires.

The Legionnaires suffered a 5-4 double-OT heart-breaker to the Notre Dame Hounds Tuesday night at Fairview West.

Swift Current led 3-2 after the first period with Legionnaire goals coming from Mason Strutt, Kersey Reich, and Riley Dekowny.

Both Notre Dame and the Legionnaires traded goals in the second period, both on the powerplay, as captain Lucas Ochitwa ripped one past the keeper for Swift.

That 4-3 Legionnaires lead didn't last long into the third period, as the Hounds drew even 1:10 into the final frame of regulation.

Deadlocked at 4-4, the two teams battled back and forth, neither seeming to give an inch, though Swift Current did manage a couple shots rung off the crossbar, as well as several pucks plucked off the goaline by the Hounds netminder.

Nevertheless, the rest of the third period and first OT solved nothing - though with 4:40 remaining in the ten-minute first-overtime frame, the Hounds got a game-winning-goal called off due to a crowded crease.

Into the second OT, the 20 minute stanza proved more of the same - a game that looked like it could go into the early hours of Wednesday morning, with how neck-and-neck the two teams were playing.

However, with 8:43 left in the frame, a puck managed to find its way past Ethan Hein in the Legionnaires net to hand the Hounds the win.

After the Hounds earned a narrow 3-2 victory in Game 1 back in Wilcox, a tough feat lies at the feet of the Legionnaires.

Down 2-0 in the best-of-five series and facing elimination, Swift Current will need to run the table over the remaining trio of games to secure a spot in the second round.

That task, the Legionnaires' bench boss noted, can only be accomplished one day at a time, and begins tonight.

"That's the way we've done it all year, that's hockey - when you play hockey, you go day-to-day," said head coach Darren Evjen. "Today is today, and tomorrow will be a new day. You've got to fight for your life tomorrow, obviously we're not where we want to be, but that's life. We've just got to be ready to play tomorrow, and get the game tomorrow in Notre Dame."

Puck drop in Game 3 between the Legionnaires and Hounds is set for 8 p.m. tonight in Wilcox.
