Sunday night at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex was already the fourth meeting of the season between Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires and Saskatoon Contacts.

The Legionnaires entered Sunday's game-winning the first three contests of the season in 10-2, 6-5, and 7-2 efforts.

ability to put their foot on the gas early in the previous meetings wasn't able to be duplicated last night, according to head coach Darren Evjen.

"The key for us is when we've gotten on top of them early, we've kind of just taken charge in the game. Last night we couldn't get that goal. We had a couple of chances early to do that again and we didn't find the back of the net."

The Legionnaires managed just one goal this time around on a Rin Beny second-period shot, as Swift lost 3-1 loss to Saskatoon.

After starting the 2017-18 season by flying out to a 9-4 record, Legionnaires are having perhaps their first plateau in production this season.

They're now 0-1-0-2 in their last three games - a pair of OT losses in Notre Dame were the result of Swift's prior two games.

For Evjen, it aids as a good reminder to his players that a balance of hard work and consistency is a necessity for continued success.

"You really have an inexperienced team at winning. You can't cut corners and you can't take shortcuts, you need to play harder and keep getting better. That's the part that we have to learn - everything in our game has to keep getting better as the season goes on to stay at the top here," he said.

Some good news came knocking last night, however, as the Legionnaires were selected to join 24 other Midget AAA teams from Canada, the United States and Europe at this year's Mac's Midget AAA World Invitational Tournament.

Swift last played in the prestigious tournament in 2003 and their best ever finish was 1998, when they lost in the final to the Strathmore, Alberta-based UFA Bisons.

Swift will be in attendance in Calgary from December 26 to January 1.

For the time being though, the Legionnaires look to snap their recent winless skid with a road contest in Regina against the Pat Canadians on Wednesday, before two more road games further east in Yorkton against the Maulers this weekend.
