It was a special night on Friday, as the Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires wrapped up the 2018-19 season with their team awards.

For the second-straight season, Reed Jacobson won the 'Scholastic Award', with an average of over 98 percent.

'Most Improved Player' went to rookie defenceman Joe Arntsen, who posted six goals and 15 points in 39 regular season games on the blue line.

'Most Valuable Player' was earned by forward Mason Strutt who, in his third and final season at the Midget AAA level, posted 55 points with a team-high 32 assists in the regular season.

Strutt also earned a nod for the 'Most Game Stars' honour for his play.

The 'Coaches Award' went to Kersey Reich who, also in his third and final season, posted 32 points - the second-highest total among defenceman, while serving as an alternate captain.

The leading scorer among defencemen was Hendrik de Klerk, who earned 'Top Defenceman'. The rookie's 37 points were the second-most among defencemen in the SMAAAHL.

'Top Rookie' was secured by Logan Linklater, who posted 14 goals and 32 points in his first season since winning a provincial title with the West Central Bantam AA Wheat Kings.

'Top Scorer' was shared by both Strutt and Jacobson, who tied for the team lead with 55 points. Strutt had the aforementioned team-leading mark of 32 assists, while Jacobson posted 26 goals, the highest mark on the Legionnaires.

Meanwhile, the captain didn't go out empty-handed. Lucas Ochitwa earned the 'Player's Choice Award' in his third-and-final season at the Midget AAA level. Ochitwa posted a career-high 22 points this season.

We'll have comment from Ochitwa, Reich, and Strutt in a Legionnaires' feature this afternoon.
