A four-game losing streak is no more for the Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires, who secured two points with a shutout win over the Moose Jaw Generals at Mosaic Place last night.

Swift Current won in commanding fashion with a 5-0 result over the Generals.

It was their highest scoring effort since a 5-3 win over the Saskatoon Contacts back on December 8, with five different goal-scorers in 'The Friendly City'.

Boston Bird scored the eventual game-winner with 1:20 remaining in the first period, with Reed Jacobson picking up an assist on the play.

"I thought the first period was pretty even, and we got one on a rebound," said head coach Darren Evjen on an opening frame that saw shots sit 13-12 in favour of Swift Current.

"Other than that, it was pretty tight - both teams got some chances."

Planting their foot on the gas pedal in the second 20-minute stanza, the Legionnaires pulled away with a trio of scoring plays.

Riley Dekowny took a feed from Logan Linklater midway through the frame, Linklater scored with five minutes left in the second with assists from Jacobson and Kersey Reich, before Blake Rasmuson took passes from Reich and Chase Gallant with little over a minute remaining for a 4-0 lead through 40.

Shots were 10-7 in favour of the Legionnaires in the period for a two-period total of 23-19.

"In the second period we put some pucks in the net and got some separation, and we started playing with a little more flow both ways, on and off the puck," noted Evjen.

That brought up a scenario that, aside from their stint at the Mac's Midget AAA tournament, the Legionnaires haven't encountered, nor executed in some time.

Swift Current held the lead, and executed a clean third period to prevent any momentum for their opposition.

"It's big, we're all thinking the same thing going into the third - we need to play the right way," said Evjen, pleased with his team's closing effort.

"I thought our guys did a really good job of staying with the game. They managed the puck, made sure pucks got deep, we just kept getting pucks around the net. We didn't take any high-risk chances to try to make it 6-0, we just played smart, made good decisions, and locked down the 5-0 win."

Joe Arntsen put home the Legionnaires' fifth and final goal midway through the third. Jacobson recorded his third assist of the night on the play, with Bird adding an assist as well.

"It was an important win for us - we needed to get a win," Evjen admitted. "It had been a while since we got two points, so it was really important. Like I always say, it doesn't matter who you're playing, you've still got to win the game. We did a good job of that."

The final shot total was 38-31 in favour of the Legionnaires, as goalie Ethan Hein earned his second shutout of the season - both coming against his former Generals team, after a 26-save shutout against MJ on December 15.

Meanwhile, in a fairly clean game, Swift Current gifted the Generals four powerplay opportunities on the night, though little opportunity was to be had for Moose Jaw, once on the man-advantage.

"Our special teams - we did a good job penalty-killing," Evjen explained. "We were really good in the neutral zone on the PK. When you win the special teams, and you play a good hockey game, you've got a good chance of winning."

Swift Current earned their 20th win of the season in the effort, now sitting at 20-10-1-0 on the campaign.

Up next, a revenge game with the Tisdale Trojans this Saturday, after the Legionnaires dropped a January 12 contest 3-2 up in the northeast.

"Well if we can do a good job on the penalty-kill like last time - we managed to make sure we killed all their power plays - that's a really good start," said Evjen on facing the high-flying Trojans squad.

"You've got to play with a lot of pace against those guys, they've got probably the best forwards in the league. We've got to make sure we just play, manage the puck in our own end, get it out playing together, and then when we can get pucks over the red line, then we've got to make decision that are going to be beneficial for us."

"They've got good goaltending, so we've got to get pucks around the net, and we've got to get second and third opportunities," he added.

The game will be held at somewhat of a neutral site, as Swift Current heads west to the Gull Lake and Community Rec Complex as part of Hockey Day in Saskatchewan.

In front of what's projected to be one of the bigger crowds they'll play in front of all season, Evjen said getting one on the board early is a good way to get the home-away-from-home crowd into it.

"They've been really tight games the last two games between us and Tisdale - it's been low scoring. It doesn't mean this one is going to be that way, but we've just got to make sure that we're ready to play, come out and push the pace of the game, and give ourselves the best opportunity to win the game."

Puck drop with the Trojans (26-3-3-1) is 4 p.m. in Gull Lake.
