A major blow was dealt to the Home Hardware Midget 'AAA' Legionnaires playoff hopes over the weekend.

Coming off of a mid-week victory over the league-leading Regina Pat Canadians, the Legionnaires were unable to build off of the momentum gained over the weekend.

Playing host to the Beardy's Blackhawks, Swift Current dropped both contests, which put their playoff hopes on life support.

On Saturday, the Legionnaires fell behind the Blackhawks 2-0 after one period of play and were never able to fully recover.

Christian Reimer cut the lead to one with a power-play goal in the middle frame, however, Beardy's would go on to restore their two goal lead early in the third.

Mason Strutt then trimmed the deficit to 3-2 with 7:04 left in regulation, but that was as close as they would get despite outshooting the Blackhawks 20-9 in the final period.

Legionnaires goalie Cody Levesque made 37 saves in the loss.

Looking to bounce back on Sunday, Ethan Regnier put Swift Current out in front 1-0 with a first period goal.

That would be the only goal of the game for the Legionnaires though and they were unable to make it hold up.

Beardy's tied the game 1-1 in the second, before netting the game winner with 10:13 to go in the third period.

Carter Woodside got the start in goal for Swift Current on Sunday and made 31 saves on 33 shots in the loss.

The Legionnaires will now require a near miracle to find their way into the post-season.

Swift Current will need to win both of their upcoming weekend games in Tisdale, while also having the Saskatoon Blazers go pointless in their final five games and have Beardy's lose at least two of their remaining three contests.

The Legionnaires will be in Tisdale Saturday and Sunday to battle the Trojans, while Saskatoon's first opportunity to eliminate Swift Current from playoff contention will be on Tuesday when they visit the Battlefords Stars.
