The Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires earned three out of four possible points in games on Friday and Sunday, both of which were at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex.

A 9-0 route of the Notre Dame Argos on Friday didn't exactly start off how the Legionnaires intended it to, leading 1-0 on a Hunter Lamb goal after the first 20 minutes.

"We weren't moving our feet, we weren't moving the puck," said head coach Darren Evjen. "After the first, we regroup and we played a solid second and third period."

"We started out slow, but then coach gave us a bit of a kick in the butt and then we got going," added forward Mason Strutt. "We had all three lines going in the second and third periods so we were able to create chances."

Goals from Owen Ozar, Rhett Stevenson, and Lamb's second of the game made it 4-0 after two periods, effectively putting the game out of reach.

Kersey Reich added to that lead less than a minute into the third period, before Strutt took over.

The product of Estevan scored the natural hat-trick with goals coming at 17:18, 14:28, and then with 5:35 remaining on the power play. Rin Beny added Swift's ninth goal to close the scoring in the game.

Steven Duchscher stopped all 27 Notre Dame shots for the shutout, and the Legionnaires used multi-point efforts in the win from Strutt (3 G, 1A), Lamb (2 G, 1 A), Stevenson (1 G, 2 A), Mkyllan Couture (3 A), Jacob Piller (3 A), Beny (1 G, 1 A), and Rhett Gibson (2 A).

Sunday afternoon's contest brought a familiar opponent, who the Legionnaires have matched up well with so far this season.

The Prince Albert Mintos and Legionnaires have battled three prior times this season: a 6-2 Mintos win on September 30, a 5-4 Legionnaires shootout win on October 29, and a 4-2 Mintos win on December 3.

Sunday's game was another grind, and Swift Current stormed out of the gates in the first period looking to even up the season series between the two teams.

Mkyllan Couture opened scoring under four minutes into the game, before Jacob Piller and Ty Muench added goals as well for a 3-1 lead at the first intermission.

"We were just playing hard from the start - we were all moving to the net and just buying in, so it was working for us," said Couture. "We were finishing checks, communicating, getting our heads up, and making good plays."

However, two Prince Albert goals in the first six minutes of the second period tied the game up at 3-3.

"Well, we had a really good start. We played a really good, sound game - a heavy game," said head coach Darren Evjen. "Then we get into the second, and they swing the momentum their way for ten minutes, and then it's just a pretty even game the rest of the way - two good teams."

Swift was able to grab another lead heading into the second intermission as well, as Hunter Lamb put his 14th of the year in the back of the net for a 4-3 lead.

Only one goal was managed in the third period, off the stick of Jaxon Tait for the Mintos, to send the game into overtime tied 4-4.

Nearly the entire five-minute 3-on-3 frame was exhausted, before Prince Albert's Austin Lamotte netted the OT-winner with 56 seconds left for the 5-4 Mintos' win.

Fittingly, the shots were 32-31 in favour of Prince Albert in the tightly contested game, and the Legionnaires' bench boss said there was really only one area to improve on.

"What we need to do is when we get put in positions, we've got to be responsible - that's being a good player," said Darren Evjen. "That's where you gain trust from coaches - you go out there, you do the right things. Sometimes it's good, and sometimes it doesn't go well like today. You need to be responsible, that's the biggest thing. Other than that, we played a good game - it was a good, hard-fought match."

The Legionnaires (13-10-0-2) have a short turnaround before another contest against the Notre Dame Argos. They travel to Wilcox for a Tuesday night match at Duncan McNeill Arena.
