Former NHLer Travis Moen is back on the hockey scene in southwest Saskatchewan, as he was named to the Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires coaching staff for the upcoming season.

The product of Stewart Valley joins the Legionnaires as an assistant coach alongside head coach Darren Evjen, and fellow assistants Guy Jacobson and Andy Blanke.

Moen hung the skates up on his NHL career after the 2015-16 season, having played 12 NHL seasons, and two in the AHL. He also has a Stanley Cup to his name, hoisting the Cup with the Anaheim Ducks in the 2006-07 season.

Moen brings his extensive NHL and WHL resume to a Legionnaires squad that blossomed into a team that reached the league semi-finals last season, before bowing out to the national-champion Notre Dame Hounds.

The new four-man coaching staff will get their first taste of the 2018-19 season as fall camp starts Friday and runs through Sunday at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex in Swift Current.

In another hiring by the team, the Legionnaires announced Duane Doane will be the team's new head trainer.
