Two Kyle MacDonald home-runs and six strong innings from Dustin Wells helped guide the Swift Current 57's to a 6-1 victory over the Moose Jaw Miller Express Tuesday night.

Playing in-front of 656 fans at Mitchell Field, MacDonald gave the fans an early reason to cheer.

With two runners on base in the bottom of the first, the 57's first baseman hammered the first pitch he saw to straight-away centre field giving his team a 3-0 lead.

"Honestly, I didn't plan on swinging," MacDonald said regarding the first pitch he saw. "Riley (Campbell) had a great jump going to third and I was going to let two guys get into scoring position, but (Tanner Emes) left a fastball right down the middle and I knew I could do some damage with it."

The blast seemed to jump-start Swift Current's offence, who had lost two straight games to Moose Jaw while only scoring a total of four runs in those games.

""It's always nice when you can jump out to a hot start," MacDonald said. "A three-run home-run is tough for the opposing team to swallow and we just kept fighting and battling."

The 57's did not wait long to add to their lead Tuesday night.

After Matt Bondarchuk reached on an E4 in the bottom of the 2nd, he then stole second base and came into score on a Riley Campbell single.

In the 3rd inning Swift Current tacked on another run.

With Brett Esau on second base, Nick Canas drove him home with a ground-rule double down the left field line.

Given an early 5-0 advantage, 57's starting pitcher Dustin Wells had far more support than he would need.

Wells put up three straight zeros before surrendering an unearned run in the 4th.

Making just his second start of the season, the Glendale, Arizona native went six innings, giving up just on the one unearned run on five hits and a walk, while striking out four.

"As a pitcher your job right there is to immediately get a zero and get those guys back in the dugout," Wells said after being handed an early lead. "That was my game plan each inning."

Having made just two starts so far this season for Swift Current, the lefty has not allowed more than one run in either appearance.

"Wells is a guy who is just going to mix and match and he was able to do that tonight," said 57's Assistant Coach Taylor Steen. "He was able to throw his change-up whenever he wanted to. He was big for us."

After Moose Jaw scratched across their lone run against Wells in the top of the 4th, MacDonald quickly made the fans forget about it in the bottom of the 5th.

The Mississauga, Ontario native led off the inning by taking a 1-2 offering from Moose Jaw starting pitcher Tanner Emes deep to right-centre field for his second multi home-run game of the season.

"Obviously it is always nice when you get one, and obviously two is great," MacDonald said. They were just a couple of pitches left up in the zone and I didn't miss them. I was able to put the barrel on the ball and make things happen."

Turning things over to the bullpen in the 7th inning, the Swift Current relievers never offered Moose Jaw an opportunity to get back in the game.

Sean Chandler, Trey Taylor and Layne Downing each pitched one inning, combining for three strike-outs and allowing just one baserunner among the three of them.

With the victory the 57's improved to 16-9 on the season while dropping the Miller Express to 15-12.

Next up for Swift Current is a trip to Yorkton on Wednesday night.

"The confidence is up right now and that's big," Steen said. "We kind-of went through a rough stretch, but we are continuing to grind and get better every single day. We just need to keep doing that each day moving forward."
