The best-of-five playoff series between the Swift Current Abbey Resources Midget AA Broncos and Estevan Bruins got underway in thrilling fashion Tuesday night at Fairview West arena.

The Midget AA Broncos edged the Bruins 2-1 to take the 1-0 series lead.

Swift struck first in the game, when Quinn Patenaude buried an unassisted goal midway through the first period.

Estevan responded five minutes later - a 1-1 score that would carry all the way to the third period.

There, Riley Skarbon found Levi Lamotte, who found Rhett Evjen, who buried what would end up being the game-winning goal just over two minutes into the final frame.

Jacob Herman stopped 36 of 37 Bruins shots for a big win in net for the Midget Broncos.

Both teams are back at Fairview West this afternoon for the second of two-straight games in Swift.

Puck drop in Game 2 is 4 p.m., before the series shifts to Estevan.
