Perhaps the most thrilling tie in recent memory kicked off the Swift Current Abbey Resources Midget AA Broncos' 2017-18 regular season.

In Estevan Friday night for the first of two games against the Bruins, the Broncos surrendered one first-period goal, and two in the second to fall behind 3-0 with just 20 minutes to play.

Seven minutes into the third, and short-handed, Ryland Hornung connected with Beau Larson, who connected with the back of Estevan's net to cut the lead to two.

Three minutes later, Rhett Evjen added another for the Broncos, before Hornung tied the game up for Swift Current with a goal just 1:06 after that.

The game stayed at a stand-still for the next seven minutes, until Estevan scored a power-play goal with 1:22 left in the game, which could have been perceived as heartbreaking, if not for Beau Larson... again.

Down 4-3 and killing off a penalty with just 48 seconds left, Larson scored his second short-handed goal of the period, as he and Aaron Wittmier connected to tie the game up.

Scoring was held in check in overtime, with Swift Current out-shooting the Bruins 5-1 in the extra frame.

After the odd stat line of an 0-for-11 power play, yet scoring twice on six short-handed occasions, the Midget AA Broncos kept rolling into Saturday's game against Estevan.

The first period of the game was scoreless, but three Bronco goals in the second from Colt Kornfeld, Riley Dekowny, and Quinn Patenaude put the game out of reach.

Riley Skarbon added one in the third, as Swift Current won 4-1.

Jacob Herman stopped 36 of 37 Estevan shots in the win.

Sunday brought the Midget Broncos back to Fairview West for their home opener against the Lumsden/Bethune Lions.

Swift Current pummeled the Lions goaltender with 48 shots in the contest, while the visiting squad managed just 27, but the Broncos snuck away with a 3-2 win in the game.

Brock Herter, Ryland Hornung, and Matthew Christianson all scored in the game, while Brad Nyen recorded the win in net for the Midget Broncos.

Sitting at 2-0-1-0 on the year, the Abbey Resources Midget AA Broncos head to Regina to take on the Vics on Tuesday night.
