There could be a split allegiance for Swift Current Broncos fans when the city hosts a Canada/Russia series game next year.

Broncos defenceman Artyom Minulin played for Russia in the series this season and would be eligible again next fall.

“Oh yeah I'm so excited,” Minulin said. “If I have a good chance to play in my kind of home town in Swift Current it will be a great experience for me next year.”

Minulin is looking forward to showing his Russia teammates around his WHL home.

“I think they will like the city,” Minulin said. “It's pretty small but nice city, nice people and nice rink.”

Fans at the Credit Union iPlex should be treated to great hockey as both teams are looking to display their best World Junior Championship eligible players.

“It's a fast game,” Minulin said. “Lots of movement, physical and everybody knows how to play hockey in those games.”

For the Broncos it's a chance to reward their fans with a big event and make a little bit of extra money at the same time. Ultimately it's just good the league had faith to put the game in our community.

“I think it's a prestige event,” said Broncos coach Manny Viveiros. “It's something that the community can be proud of getting to see some of the best kids in the world come together for one night. It's going to be a really exciting time.”

The Broncos have won five of their last six games as they visit the Saskatoon Blades tonight. They have a playoff position clinched and are now working to be at their best for the start of the post-season.

“We are playing pretty good hockey,” Minulin said. “We have to keep going until playoff time and be ready for playoffs. First round will be against Moose Jaw and they're a pretty good team. We have to be ready.”

You can hear tonight's game live from Saskatoon on The Eagle 94.1 FM with Robertson Family Group Broncos Hockey at 6:30pm. The Broncos then host the Blades on Saturday.
