A strong season for a Swift Current Broncos rookie defenceman was cut short on Monday.

Alex Moar suffered an injury in a 3-2 OT loss to the Brandon Wheat Kings.

Moar was listed on the WHL report Tuesday as out 6-8 weeks, ending a season in which he made heaps of progress on the blue line.

Coming over from Everett earlier this season, Moar went on to post 16 points (2 G, 14 A) in 39 games as a Bronco.

After struggling to find the lineup for the veteran club in the Pacific Northwest, Moar played just four games with the Silvertips, and was held off the stat sheet.

Upon his insertion into the Broncos lineup, Moar was a big part of the power play just minutes into his debut with Swift Current.

Getting his feet underneath him in a larger role, the Prince Albert product logged two points in his first 16 games in the southwest.

Then, in 23 games from December 15 until the Family Day Monday, Moar found a rhythm Broncos fans should be able to look forward to for the next few years.

The 2001-born defender piled up 14 points (2 G, 12 A) over that time before his season ended.

Moar's 16 points rank him ninth on the team, and second to only Connor Horning among defencemen. He also was tied for sixth in the WHL among rookie defencemen.

The skilled puck-handler joins another high-upside rookie on the injury report for what looks to be the remainder of the season.

Forward Ben King's was also cut short after just 39 games, suffering an upper body injury in a January 5 home game against the Regina Pats.

King's 23 points (5 G, 18 A) still rank third on the team, though his mark of 0.59 points-per-game still sits tops among those still on the roster.

Meanwhile, the Broncos look to close the regular season strong, as they play host to the Moose Jaw Warriors Friday at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex.
