A late rally came up just short for the Swift Current Mosquito 57's.

Battling the Weyburn Beavers in the semi-final of the 2017 Mosquito 'AA' Tier 1 Provincial championship, the 57's found themselves on the wrong end of an 11-10 score, despite a furious comeback.

Trailing the Beavers 11-4 heading to the 6th and final inning, Swift Current cashed in six runs and got the tying run to first base with only one-out, but the rule book prevented them from getting any closer.

For the Mosquito age group, Baseball Sask allows only six runs per inning and once Swift Current hit that number the game came to an end.

There is a loop-hole in the rule, that should a team hit a home-run over the fence, all base-runners would score even if it resulted in seven or more runs in one inning.

For the 57's the semi-final defeat brought an end to their provincial run.

Meanwhile, the Beavers went on to defeat the Muenster Red Sox 8-6 in the gold medal game.
