Decorated Swift Current Comp wrestler Aleah Nickel has officially chosen her landing spot for where she'll continue her career after high school.

It was fitting that at the 2019 Golden Bear Classic in Edmonton over the weekend, Nickel announced she'll join the University of Alberta starting in the 2019-2020 season.

Nickel's resume boasts several gold and silver medals at high-end competitions:

  • Silver in 56kg division at 2017 Canada Summer Games
  • Gold in 60kg division at 2018 SHSAA Provincials
  • Gold in 61kg division at 2018 Juvenile Nationals
  • Silver in 61kg division at 2018 Pan-Am Championship in Guatemala City, Guatemala

Nickel will join a U of A program who currently is ranked sixth in the U Sports national rankings, and who saw their Golden Bears (men's) and Pandas (women's) teams secure Canada West Conference titles in 2018.

She will be coached by Owen Dawkins, whose tenth season at the helm of the program will be Nickel's first this fall.
