Although there's no set timeline for games just yet, the Swift Current U18 Female AAA Wildcats have begun some on-ice training.

Last week the hockey club practiced a trio of times getting some team reps under their belt.

Wildcats Head Coach Terry Pavely said they're a younger squad this year but he was impressed with what he's seen from the players so far.

"We're really happy with a lot of the new additions," he said. "The first week of practice obviously wasn't about team systems or anything like that but we thought the pace was really good."

Currently the Wildcats have 11 forwards, six defencemen, and a duo of goaltenders on the roster with one open spot left. And according to Pavely he's happy with the piece of the puzzle he's working with to date.

"I think we ended up with nine players from last year back I believe," he said. "We've added three kids who have experience playing AAA midget, so as much as we're young I think we ended up with 12 kids that have AAA experience on our team. It was nice to be able to add some kids who played in the league and have that experience."

The last Pavely had heard from the league regarding the season beginning was potentially the start of November, but some restrictions may apply.

"For us, it would probably mean playing Regina, Weyburn, and Notre Dame only at the beginning, so you have no overnight trips," he said. "Probably not even going into restaurants, just having take out meals or we could just pick them up."

In past years Pavely said he's wanted to have his team leadership group chosen sooner rather than later, but with the season uncertainty, it's giving him time to contemplate his selections this year.

"We're going to watch how kids lead in practice, how kids lead off the ice," he said. "We are going to be spending a little bit more time on what leadership looks like to really prepare the kids, to say this is what we're looking for in leaders, and then to see who's able to follow those guidelines."

With no games in sight for at least two months, the team has been working on some off-ice soccer skills to keep things on a lighter note.
