Coming off of a 39-14 week 1 win over the Weyburn Eagles, the Swift Current Comp Colts football team is set for their home opener under the lights at Colts Field tonight against the Moose Jaw Central Cyclones.

Head Coach Derek Murdoch says the week has been filled with prep for the unique and energizing atmosphere of playing a night game under the lights.

"Excitement is a bit of an understatement. This week is usually a little chaotic - a night game hasn't been our home opener before so this is the first time for that," he said. "We worked really hard the last couple of days, and are going to go get after it tonight under the lights and let the guys see what that's like - it's a little different, especially trying to catch the football."

The main preparation for the Colts was game-planning for the visiting Central Cyclones, who fell to defending provincial champion Moose Jaw Peacock 32-13 in their first game of the season.

"We know that Central is probably going to come and throw the football - they threw a lot against Peacock last Saturday, and we'll be ready for that," Murdoch said. "We also wanted to clean up some of the stuff from the game against Weyburn. We made some big plays on Saturday, but we want to be able to kind of grind it a bit more than we did - just be balanced and we'll see what happens."

Joining the obvious addition of lights surrounding Colts Field for the night game are multiple facility upgrades (seen in the gallery below), which will serve the Swift Current Composite High School for much longer than just the night game.

A new score clock, donated by Crop Production Services, will serve as a far superior replacement to its predecessor.

"We just can't say enough about the support and the corporate sponsorship," Murdoch said. "Without that, we'd still be fighting with the same clock we had been fighting with for the past four or five years."

The clock was joined this past weekend by the addition of two banks of seating from the old Mosaic Stadium as part of the Saskatchewan Roughriders' Legacy Project. The bleachers flank either side of the sound booth on the west side of the track, providing a much larger area for permanent seating at the facility.

"These upgrades make us more legit," said the Colts' head coach. "We've been working really hard at kind of changing the culture of the football program and we've been able to do that, both on and off the field. These upgrades make it easier to keep guys interested in improving the on-field stuff."

The Colts also look to continue improving their 1-0 record tonight at 7 p.m.
