Three wins in three games solidified a gold medal at the sixth-annual Doug Armstrong Memorial Invitational Tournament for the Swift Current Comp Senior Colts basketball team.

The Colts opened play on Friday by nearly doubling up the Humboldt Mohawks 95-48. Braedon Friesen scored a team-high 26 in the win, while a trio of Logan Fritzke, Scott Joseph, and Alex Dominguez all added 11.

In their first game Saturday, the Colts won a bit closer of a contest against Warman in a 72-57 effort. Once again Friesen topped the stat sheet with 34 points, while again Frizke and Joseph chipped in 11.

The final proved the toughest test for the Sr Colts, matched up with a tough Weyburn Eagles squad.

p>"If we're not making those shots to keep back at them, we're in a lot of trouble," Mayall said. "Every time it seemed like Weyburn was going to pull ahead of us, we happened to make a couple key shots to keep it close. We knew we were going to be okay because they were playing their second game in a short period of time and they had a short bench, so we knew that they would hopefully end up getting a little bit cooler."

Swift Current was led on the stat sheet by Tanner Scott, their lone grade 10 on the roster, who had 26 points.

"I was just trying to get open, getting some shots up, and making them," Scott said. "There was a little competition there making threes."

The veteran Friesen added 25 more in the final, while Joseph put up his best offensive effort with 18.

Perhaps the biggest positive in the win was the Colts' ability to effectively eliminate an issue that has made an appearance this season, according to their head coach.

"Our Achilles heel has been turning that ball over and I think we did a pretty good job, because Weyburn actually pressures the ball pretty well and we didn't have those turnovers which lead to layups the other way, nearly as much as we have all year, so if we can do that I think we're going to be more successful." Mayall noted.

The Colts have this weekend off as part of the February break, but are back to tournament play March 2-3 in North Battleford.
