For the third time in her curling career, Kelly Schafer will be taking part in the Winter Olympic Games.

The Swift Current resident will be off to the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic games, serving as the alternate for Eve Muirhead's Great Britain team.

Schafer has previously attended the 2006 and 2010 games playing the second position both times.

Playing with the defending champion Rhona Martin at the 2006 games in Torino, Italy, the team finished round robin with a 5-4 record and barely missed the playoffs.

Needing Canada's Shannon Kleibrink to lose their final round-robin game to force a tie-breaker, Kleibring escaped with a 9-8 win.

At the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, it was Schafer's first time competing with Muirhead at the Olympics.

An inconsistent week ultimately saw the team finish round-robin 3-6 and out of the playoff picture.

Over this past season, Schafer served as Muirhead's alternate while the team's regular third, Anna Sloan, recovered from an injury.

Schafer was also with the team as their fifth player when they won bronze at the 2017 World Championship in Beijing, China.

The 2018 Winter Olympics run from February 9th to 25th.
