The NHL season opened tonight with eight former Swift Current Broncos making a big league roster.

That includes first time NHLer Jake DeBrusk and veteran Paul Postma with Boston, Dale Weise in Philadelphia, Michal Rozsival in Chicao, Julis Honka in Dallas, Adam Lowry in Winnipeg, Maple Creek product Zack Smith in Ottawa and Cody Eakin with the new Vegas Golden Knights.

In total 142 WHL graduates are starting the season in the NHL.

Meanwhile, Aneroid's Patrick Marleau began his 20th NHL season in a new city.

Marleau had two goals in his Toronto Maple Leafs regular season debut as his new club beat Winnipeg 7-2.

Shaunavon's Braydon Coburn also continues his NHL career this season with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
