A trio of southwest high school basketball teams emerged out of SHSAA Conference play this past weekend with a spot in the Regional round.

The Shaunavon Silhouettes captured a 2A Conference title in Herbert after a 69-42 win over Davidson in the semis and a 56-42 victory over Moose Jaw Cornerstone in the final.

The Conference win gives Shaunavon the 7-seed out of 16 teams over four 2A Regionals.

Shaunavon will be at the Regina Harvest City-hosted Regional this coming Friday and Saturday.

The #7 Silhouettes play #10 St. Walburg in the semis, with the winner facing the winner of a game between #2 Regina Harvest City and #15 Norquay in the Regional final.

The winner of the four-team bracket will be one of four 2A teams at SHSAA Provincials in Prince Albert March 23-24

As well, the Leader Saints girls grabbed a spot in 1A Regionals after a second-place finish in Conference play on their home court.

The Saints defeatead Eatonia 70-57, but dropped the Conference final 84-38 to Kerrobert.

Leader is now ranked as the 12-seed out of 16 teams spread out over 1A Regionals, and one of four teams at the St. Brieux-hosted Regional.

#12 Leader plays #5 Langham this Friday at 8 p.m. - the winner faces the winner of a semi between #4 St. Brieux and #13 LCBI. The Regional winner will head to Hoopla in Prince Albert the following weekend.


The lone 3A team in the southwest, the Maple Creek girls are off to Regionals as well after advancing out of their Kindersley-hosted Conference.

Maple Creek defeated Outlook 69-34, but lost 61-28 to Assiniboia in the Conference semis, to become one of four teams from the bracket to advance to Regionals.

#9 Maple Creek is now off to Regina Christian to play #8 Nipawin in the Regional quarter-finals. The winner will advance to the semis and play either #1 Regina Christian or #16 Yorkton Sacred Heart.

The winner of the four-team Regional advances to Prince Albert-hosted Provincials in late-March.


Both the SCCHS Sr Colts and Sr Ardens weren't in Conference action this past weekend, but also find themselves in the field at their respective 5A SHSAA Regionals.

The #4 Sr. Ardens are in Weyburn and play the #5 Notre Dame Hounds in the quarters, with the winner set to take on #1 Prince Albert Carlton in the semis.

Meanwhile, the #4 Sr. Colts are in Warman taking on the #5-seeded host team in the quarters. The winner will advance to the semis to play either #1 Yorkton or #8 Balgonie Greenall.

The winners of the Regional semis will head to the final, and clinch a spot in the 8-team bracket at Hoopla.

Two teams from the 'Rural' bracket advance, while three from both Saskatoon and Regina brackets move on to Hoopla.
