The Nipawin Hawks are the SJHL's Canalta Cup Champions after a thrilling seven-game series with the Estevan Bruins concluded last night.

The Hawks defended home ice in a 2-1 win over the Bruins, in what was a series with heavy ties to Swift Current.

Hawks captain Carter Doerksen, a Swift Current product and former Home Hardware Legionnaires defenceman, notched a goal in the Game 7 win. It was his first in the Canalta Cup series, to go along with two other assists in the finals.

As well, former Swift Current Broncos forward Tyler Adams assisted on the Hawks' game-winning goal for his second assist of the series.

A pair of other Hawks with a southwest connection held off the stat sheet in Game 7. Former Swift Current Broncos forward Brandan Arnold had one goal and six assists prior to the series finale, and former Legionnaires defenceman Gage Misskey added a goal from the point in the series.

The Hawks' bench boss Doug Johnson, a product of Swift Current himself, is the first head coach in 28 years to hoist the Canalta Cup.

Meanwhile, the Bruins' roster has a pair of former Broncos and the son of a Broncos' legend.

Former Swift prospect Jake Fletcher had the lone goal for Estevan in the series. The Bruins captain had a dominant three goals and five assists in seven games. Also, former Broncos fan favourite Arthur Miller had four points (2 G, 2 A) in the series loss.

Lastly, Kaelan Holt, the son of Broncos' all-time leading scorer Todd Holt, had two goals, along with a game-seven assist.
