Sam Steel scored four times including a second period natural hat trick as the Regina Pats beat the Swift Current Broncos 7-0 on Friday night.

After a close first period the Pats starting pouring it on in the second period and never looked back as they outshot the Broncos 51-15 to secure their fifth straight win over Swift Current this season.

The Broncos held Regina off the board in a closely played first period and went into the second in a good spot.

Two minutes into the second period Lane Pederson was called for a charging major on Robbie Holmes that seemed to change the momentum of the game.

At first when Pederson hit Holmes into the boards it didn't appear there would be a penalty called. After the whistle with Holmes on the ice injured the officials held a conference and decided after the fact to penalize Pederson and kick him out of the game.

Regina responded with a quick Steel goal and started building their momentum from there.

It was Swift Current's second lopsided loss in Regina after three close games against the Pats on home ice.

The Broncos won't have much time to dwell on the game as they visit Moose Jaw on Saturday night before heading back to Regina to face the Pats again on Sunday afternoon.

Swift Current had forward MacKenzie Wight with them as they called him up from the BCHL. He was a healthy scratch.

Brandan Arnold only has one game left with the Broncos before he reaches the maximum an affiliate can play and has to return to Nipawin of the SJHL. He won't be eligible to come back to the team until after the Hawks wrap up their season.

You can hear Saturday's game from Moose Jaw live on The Eagle 94.1 FM with Robertson Family Group Broncos Hockey at 6:30pm.
