A pair of Swift Current Broncos received league-wide recognition Wednesday morning, when the Western Hockey League announced its 2016/17 award winners.

Both Tyler Steenbergen and Aleksi Heponiemi came away with hardware from the announcement.

Scoring 51 goals and adding 39 assists in a breakout season, Steenbergen was named an Eastern Conference 2nd Team All-Star.

The honours did not stop there for the Sylvian Lake native though.

Steenbergen was also announced the Eastern Conference Most Sportsmanlike Player.

For Heponiemi, he was named the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Year.

The Finnish forward enjoyed a strong first season with Swift Current, posting 28 goals and 58 assists, his 86 points put him first in the rookie scoring race.

Also of note, Shaunavon's Kole Lind was named a Western Conference 2nd Team All-Star.

Playing with the Kelowna Rockets, Lind posted 30 goals and 57 assists.

All three skaters are eligible for league awards at the 2017 WHL Awards in Calgary, AB on Wednesday, May 3rd.
