Tyler Steenbergen ripped home the overtime winner to end a long night with a big sigh of relief as the Swift Current Broncos snapped a four game losing skid with a 3-2 win over the Regina Pats.

The victory wrapped up one of the best regular seasons in Broncos franchise history on a winning note.

"It's nice to see (Steenbergen) get a goal," said Broncos Associate Coach Ryan Smith. "He'll probably be the first to admit his second half... it would have been hard to repeat his first half. It was nice to see him score. We needed that point. We've had a bit of a rough March as far as wins and losses. The games have been pretty good we just haven't been on the right side of the score."

It was an almost carbon copy of the game last night in Regina. It was physical, it was heavy, there were a few scraps, there was an intensity to that game and they won last night in overtime. For us to get that goal and Steener to get it that was big... and hopefully that gets us going next week."

Swift Current finished with a record of 48-17-5-2 and 103 points. That is the second best point total for a Broncos team in both Swift Current and Lethbridge franchise history.

They trail only the Memorial Cup winning Broncos from 1988-89 that put up 111 points.

Their 48 wins are the fourth best total in franchise history behind the 88-89 team (55), the 1981-82 Lethbridge Broncos (50) and the 1992-93 WHL Champion Swift Current Broncos (49).

Kaden Elder and Beck Malenstyn also scored for Swift Current, while Stuart Skinner made 30 saves in the win.

"Tonight we started slow," Smith said. "They were physically better than us at the start of the game. We slowly grew and we got into it. By the end it was even. At times we took it to them and at times they took it to us.

That physical level included a spirited scrap between Broncos forward Quinton Waitzner and Regina's Scott Mahovlich that had the crowd on their feet.

Jared Legin and Aaron Hyman scored for Regina as the Pats scratched a number of the veteran players including likely starting goaltender Max Paddock.

Glenn Gawdin was a late scratch for Swift Current, but he told The Eagle 94.1 FM post-game show that he would play on Friday in Game 1 against Regina.

Tanner Nagel's suspension will be up by Friday, while Andrew Fyten is facing a TBD suspension for a hit on Libor Hayek in Regina last night.

There was a long delay in the third period as a Regina forward Matt Bradley cracked a pane of glass next to his team's bench when he smacked it with his stick out of frustration with the officials. Bradley was assessed a misconduct while officials spent 30 minutes figuring out how to proceed without an available replacement for that pane.

Eventually they took the glass out and added padding to protect the area in between the two adjacent panes.

Swift Current's victory gave them a 5-0-1-0 record in the season series against Regina.

Games 1 and 2 of the playoff series between the two teams will be in Swift Current on Friday and Saturday night. The series shifts to Regina on Monday and Wednesday the following week.

The Broncos also handed out their regular season awards before and after tonight's game. Gawdin was named Team MVP among several other awards.
