All three SWAC soccer teams who competed at their respective SHSAA Provincial championships were officially rewarded for their fair play today.

The Herbert Laurels boys, and both Swift Current Comp Colts and Ardens received SHSAA Sportsmanship banners in ceremonies today.

Herbert's came at 10:30 a.m. from their school gym, while both Colts and Ardens banners were presented at the Comp earlier this afternoon.

SCCHS Ardens

"It feels really good, the girls worked hard all season. If we lost, we continued to be nice to everyone, respect all the players, and just have good sportsmanship throughout the season," said Ardens team captain Allison Wall, noting that her job as captain required sportsmanship to be prevalent.

"It was super important. If we lost, I'd tell them not to get down, and just have good respect for everyone. If we win, not to be all cocky or whatever about it - just have a nice win, and just be calm about it."

The Ardens, a perennial powerhouse in league play and beyond, finished in sixth place at Provincials.

For the Grade 12 Wall, it was her last season on the team, and spoke on the cyclical process that helped her grow as an Arden.

"Well when I was younger, I had some older girls teach me some new things and teach me leadership," she said. "I just used that to use to my advantage when I was older. We had two seniors this year, we were really good to the girls and the younger girls, and made them look up to us. I think it was a good season."

SCCHS Colts

Meanwhile the Colts narrowly missed the podium at Provincials, placing fourth among stiff competition.

"It feels pretty good to be rewarded for something. We put in a lot of effort this season, and it feels good to be awarded it," said Colts captain Jaedyn Carefoot, who said the team's level of sportsmanship seemed to come naturally.

"Honestly I don't even think we really noticed, but I think just everyone on the team was just a good group of kids, to be honest. It was a fun season because of that."

Though a captain, Carefoot said teammates evenly contributed to making sure that this Colts program is in good hands for a while now.

"I think everyone participated, I don't think it was just the old guys. It's going to be a good group of kids for years to come."

Herbert Laurels

And from Herbert School, the Laurels were awarded the blue banner for their composure and sportsmanship in a fifth-place finish at 1A Boys provincials.
