In a game where both Taylor Lind and Kennedy Bobyck were held off the scoresheet, perhaps it should come as no surprise that Tuesday night's overtime hero had never scored a SFMAAAHL goal before.

That all changed with 5:14 left to play in the second overtime session as Swift Current Wildcats defenceman Toni Theaker scored her first ever SFMAAAHL goal, sending the Wildcats into the semi-finals, while simultaneously ending the Regina Rebels season.

"A real heads-up play by her to be a little bit patient and wait till the seem opened up and just a wrist shot to the net with a lot of traffic and found the back of the net," said Wildcats Head Coach of Theaker's overtime winner.

"That's really been the recipe for success for us right now. Get traffic in front of the net and get the puck back to the point."

It was a strategy the Wildcats had been using all series before putting it on full display Tuesday night in front of a raucous Fairview West Arena.

"Our goals in Regina the other night (Feb. 26) were the same," said Pavely.

"Mikayla Swallow shot one from the point that was deflected. The triple overtime game that we won there (Regina) was two point shots with deflections. We just have to keep it simple and when we do those simple things, we get other people involved in the offence."

Swift Current entered the contest holding a 2-1 lead in the best of five series, but early on in the game it appeared a game five may be on the horizon.

Although the Wildcats seemed to be generating the better opportunities, it was Rebels forward Ally Kosteniuk getting the visitors on the board first.

Scoring for the third time in the four game series, Kosteniuk picked up the puck below the Wildcats goal line, skated to the side of the goal and was able to slam the puck past Swift Current goalie Harper Davey.

Down a goal, Swift Current still continued to apply pressure but were unable to break through as the Rebels carried the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

In the middle frame, Regina's scoring chances were few and far between, but they did take full advantage of one early in the period.

Cycling the puck in the Wildcats zone, Kosteniuk moved it up to Lauren Focht who found Brooke Pellerin at the point.

Pellerin let a wrist shot go, which bounced of a body in front and found its was past Davey to extend the Rebels lead to 2-0.

Following Regina's second goal though, the Wildcats were finally able to break through.

After getting the puck deep into the Rebel's zone, Sara Kendall found Tennelle Lind at the point who fired a hard shot that was deflected by the Chloe Smith and past Regina goalie Chantal Burke.

With the goal, momentum seemed to completely swing into Swift Current's favour.

Just 38 seconds after Smith's marker, Cassidy Hammett was called for a cross-check sending an energized Wildcats team to the power-play, where they would make no mistake.

Holding the Regina zone numerous times, the Wildcats went right back to what had been working so well all series.

Trista Labarowski picked up the pick and dished it over to Mikayla Swallow who fired a slap-shot that found it's way through everybody and in, tying the game 2-2.

With the period coming to an end still in a 2-2 deadlocked, the Wildcats had felt good about how the first two frames went, outshooting Regina 14-8.

"I thought during the first two periods we were the better team," said Pavely.

"In the third period they got a little momentum but I thought we responded really well and got some big saves from Davey when we need them."

And need them they did.

Bobyck began to do her best to take control of the game for the Rebels.

The 5'1" forward used her speed multiple times to break through the neutral zone and get the puck in towards the Swift Current goal.

Never was Bobyck able to get a great scoring chance during regulation, however, her getting the puck in deep led to plenty of opportunities for her teammates during the third period.

With neither team able to find the back of the net in the third, they both prepared for overtime, where Bobyck had her best opportunity of the night.

Already with three goals in the series and 31 goals in 24 regular season games, she broke into the Swift Current zone and cut into the slot before ringing a wrist shot off the crossbar and out of play.

"Once in a while she tries to really fly the zone and you have to be prepared when she does that and I thought our girls did a really good job with that," said Pavely.

"She only got one really good chance, which she let rip and we were fortunate it hit the crossbar, but you hold a kid with that skill level to one scoring chance in a game, that is a really good job by not just our d-men but our forwards as well."

Both teams continued to trade chances throughout the first and second overtime sessions, until Theaker's point shot found its way through to end the game.

In the end, Davey turned aside 31 of 33 shots for Swift Current, while Burke stopped 27 of 30 for Regina.

The Wildcats will now move on to the SFMAAAHL Semi-Finals where they will face the Saskatoon Stars.

The dates for the best of five series have yet to be announced.
