The Diamond Energy Female Midget AAA Wildcats, as predicted by head coach Terry Pavely, responded in game two of their Mac's Midget AAA Tournament schedule.

Coming off of a 7-1 loss on Tuesday to the Rocky Mountain Raiders, the Wildcats took care of business in a 3-1 win over the Vancouver Island Seals.

Kenedee Klevgaard gave the Wildcats their first lead of the tournament 5:10 into the first period, burying a puck past the Seals net-minder on a feed from Crystal Wale.

"First and foremost our compete level was really good, and it was really good throughout our lineup," Pavely said. "I thought the first period we were really great - we probably deserved a better fate [than the 1-0 lead]. We really were the better team - I think at one point the shots were 8-0, so that was the start we needed."

The lead was stretched to 2-0 over 22 minutes of stoppage time later with Carissa Hogan scoring in the second period for her second goal in as many games. Layne Hryhoriw and Brooklyn Colborn assisted on the goal.

Swift Current surrendered a goal two minutes later as the Seals' Anika Block managed to solve netminder Amaya Giraudier for the first and only time in the contest.

Once again both teams were held scoreless for a large chunk of the game, until Taylor Lind struck on the power play.

The Wildcats' leading scorer this season took a pass from Sara Kendall and Hogan with 13:14 left in the game and sealed the fate of the Vancouver Island side.

Swift put 24 shots on the Seals' net, while Giraudier finished the game stopping 18 of 19 shots for the Wildcats.

"She was just really well-positioned. She made a couple really good saves on the bottom half of the net where she had to slide across, and just showed a lot of composure in there," Pavely said of his rookie goalie. "That's what you want from a goaltender. They've got to stay composed, and she's been doing that for us.  I thought her rebound control was really good today."

The Diamond Energy Wildcats get day off from tournament action before facing a fellow SFMAAAHL opponent on Friday.

The Regina Rebels await in the third game on the Wildcats' round robin schedule. The two teams have met twice so far in the regular season - the Wildcats took the first game 5-1 on September 30, but lost 3-1 to the Rebels on Oct 1.

Regina also has a 1-1 record through two games of the Mac's, which points to essentially a must-win contest on the radar.

"It's a game now that both teams really have to win if they want a chance to move on," Pavely noted, while sharing insight on the match-up.

"We're going to have to be aware of their top line. They've got a really skilled defenceman in Brooklyn Stevely. We're going to have to make sure we're really aware of that player as she jumps into the rush a lot. If we do those things, I think we'll have a chance to win in the last five minutes."

Puck drop between the Rebels and Wildcats is 4:45 p.m. Saskatchewan time on December 29.
