Finals-bound once again for the East Division champion Swift Current 57's.

A 6-4 game five win at home against the Weyburn Beavers capped off the come-from-behind effort, after being down 2-0 in the series.

On short rest, Bobby St. Pierre got the start on the mound, and performed steady, going five innings, while giving up two runs on six hits.

A quartet of Dustin Wells, Jagger Harjo, Layne Downing and Keil Krumwiede combined for four innings of relief out of the bullpen, giving up two runs on five hits - Downing was credited with the win, and Krumwiede with the save.

Despite the strong pitching in game five, the 57's still saw themselves trailing 2-0 headed into the bottom of the fifth inning - but found an offensive rhythm at the right time, scoring four runs highlighted by Brett Esau and Cole Thibideau RBI singles.

The 4-2 lead was surrendered in the top of seven with a pair of runs, before a patient eighth inning at the plate saw the scoring shift back into Swift Current's favour for good.

Headed into the home-half of the eighth tied 4-4, Cole Thibideau drew a walk, Riley Campbell singled, and Blake Adams walked as well, loading the bases with one out. An anti-climactic RBI for Bodie Cooper after he too drew a walk to score Thibideau from third - the eventual game-winning run. Nick Canas rounded out the scoring in the inning with an RBI single, sending Riley Campbell home for a 6-4 lead.

Pushed to the edge of a possible playoff exit, 57's head coach Joe Carnahan was pleased at the character his team showed in three straight do-or-die games.

"After we lost the first two, there was absolutely no panic or anything negative in their mind. They were confident the entire time," he said. "It takes three things to win in the playoffs. You have to be focused, you have to be fearless, and you have to have fun - these guys are doing all three of those."

Now a match-up with the familiar Edmonton Prospects for a re-match of the 2016 WMBL finals - something Swift Current first baseman Bodie Cooper says was important to keep off the mind while on the field in game five against Weyburn.

"We were all very aware of what was going on around the league and, for the returning players, it's definitely funny to see we're matching up with them again," he said. "But, you know, you just have to keep your head in the game - if you don't, then you get caught off guard."

Game one of the 2017 WMBL finals is set for Sunday night at 7:05 at Mitchell Field.
