A chance to represent Saskatchewan will be on the line this week as eight men's and eight women's curling teams descend on Swift Current for the 2016/2017 Affinity Credit Union Senior Joint Curling Provincial Championship set to get underway Wednesday morning.

The five-day event will run from Wednesday to Sunday and crown both, the men's and women's provincial champion.

Although there is no local team competing in the women's draw, the Swift Current Curling Club is being represented in the men's.

Max Kirkpatrick and his rink consisting of Third Wayne Charteris, Second Mitch Minken and Lead Greg Hannay qualified for the provincial earlier this month in Shaunavon, winning the third and final qualifying berth at Southern's.

After all eight women's teams hit the ice for the Wednesday morning draw at 9:00am, Kirkpatrick, along with the seven other men's teams will play their first games of the bonspiel at 2:30pm.

The Swift Current rink will begin their run against Saskatoon's Brian Humble, who was the second qualifier at Northern's in Prince Albert.

Following his afternoon contest, Kirkpatrick will be back on the ice Wednesday night at 7:30pm to battle Moosomin's Daryl Williamson.

The championship's opening draw will feature:

Sherry Anderson (Saskatoon- Nutana) vs Cathy Inglis (Yorkton)

Darlene Gillies (Kindersley) vs Lorraine Arguin (Moose Jaw)

Peggy Fernquist (Saskatoon- Granite) vs Janet Englot (Melville)

Jacqueline Swiderski (Christopher Lake- Lakeland) vs Delores Syrota (Wadena)

Saskatoon's Sherry Anderson and Kerrobert's Brad Heidt enter the provincial as the last year's defending champions.
