On Saturday two Swift Current athletes won gold medals at a Judo tournament in Regina.

Tydon Moen received a Gold Medal for the Under 10 Ne Waza, and Toro Iwaasa won the gold medal for the Senior Mens 100+ Kilogram.

Ray Moen, president of the Swift Current Judo club, said to get two gold medals considering the size of the judo club in the city is awesome.

"It's really nice to see, especially us being a smaller club," he said. "With not having a huge amount of kids in it, it shows we have a lot of skill set in Swift Current, and we will continue this trend."

Iwaasa was also named the Under 18 Male Athlete of the year.

Moen said Iwaasa was honoured to be named athlete of the year.

"That's a huge honour, and he was quite proud and very surprised to receive it," he said. "I know when he comes back to training on Monday, he will be pretty proud of himself. It's a huge accomplishment, and he spends countless hours training and working out just to improve himself every day."
