Another award to go along with their provincial volleyball silver medal for the Vanguard Senior Boys Volleyball team.

Late last week, SHSAA announced that the Vanguard Valkrys were the recipients of the Sportsmanship award for the 1A Provincial tournament.

Being recognized for their sportsmanship on and off the court, Vanguard very nearly had a gold medal to go along with it.

After a 3-1 finish in pool play and wins in the quarter-final against Leader and semi-final against Edam, the Valkrys were just mere points away from a championship.

Having defeated the host team from Chief Kahkewistahaw 25-23 in the first set, Vanguard fell 26-24 in the second, before dropping the third and final set 15-9.

Vanguard is the second southwest team to be awarded a sportsmanship banner this year.

The Shaunavon Senior Boys were the recipients of the 4A Sportsmanship award for Volleyball.
