SAN ANTONIO, Tex -- Under the lights in Texas, the Saskatchewan Selects' varsity team opened the 2019 International Pigskin Classic with a 14-6 win over the California MB Elite on Friday night.

Their first game in San Antonio wasn't without its missteps, but the Selects put together a strong defensive performance, which included six forced turnovers to come away with the win.

Moose Jaw's C.J. Vincent scored the game's opening touchdown for the Selects on a long catch-and-run. He said it was an incredible experience.

"It was fantastic representing my city, my province and my country, it was a great feeling to come out with the win," said Vincent.

"[The touchdown] was euphoric, it was unbelievable, this is my first time down in Texas playing with the Selects, so it was fantastic."

The Varsity Selects will be back on the field on Saturday to take on Score Mexico at 3:30 p.m.
