Tanner Jeannot scored midway through the third period to pull Moose Jaw ahead as the Warriors beat the Swift Current Broncos 5-2 on Saturday night.

Swift Current again got off to a strong start but were not able to sustain it against a fresh Warriors club that didn't play on Friday night.

The Broncos outshot Moose Jaw 15-8 in the first period and were not able to solve red hot Warroirs goaltender Zach Sawchenko. He made a spectacular save on a Glenn Gawdin one-timer late in the period to keep the game scoreless.

Moose Jaw then turned the game around in the second period hemming the Broncos in their own zone for much of it and firing 21 shots on the Swift Current goal.

The Warriors took a 2-0 lead as Noah Gregor had a fanned shot deflect in off Dom Schmiemann's skate and Josh Brook beat Jordan Papirny on a backhand.

Papirny also made some very impressive stops in the period including potential play of the week style glove saves on Spencer Bast and Jayden Halbgewachs.

Swift Current got some life late in the period as Riley Stotts stole a puck and drove the net to create a Ryley Lindgren goal. 26 seconds later Aleksi Heponiemi set up Glenn Gawdin beautifully for a quick snap snot that beat Sawchecnko and the Broncos stormed back to tie the game in the final minute of the period.

The third period started promisingly for the Broncos who put good pressure on the Warriors and weren't able to pull ahead. That's when Jeannot struck off a shot block that hit a Broncos skate and bounced right to him.

The Warriors added two more as the third period went on and secured their fifth straight win.

Moose Jaw is now twelve points ahead of the Broncos for second place in the East Division with almost a strangle hold on that spot.

Swift Current remains five points up on Brandon for third place after the Wheat Kings lost in Medicine Hat.

The Broncos were without Lane Pederson as he was suspended two games for a hit on Robbie Holmes in Regina on Friday. He will also be out of the lineup on Sunday afternoon against the Pats.

Saturday's game was the last forward Brandon Arnold could play as an affiliate before having to return to Nipawin of the SJHL. He was re-assigned to the Hawks before the trade deadline and could only play for the Broncos as an AP. They won't be able to use him again until Nipawin's playoff run is over.

Forward MacKenzie Wight made his Broncos debut against the Warriors after spending most of the season in the BCHL. He had 12 points in 27 BCHL games with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.

You can hear Sunday's game from Regina live on The Eagle 94.1 FM with Robertson Family Group Broncos Hockey at 3:30pm.
