In a game heard live on The Eagle 94.1 on Sunday, the Diamond Energy Female Midget AAA Wildcats polished off a weekend sweep of the Notre Dame Hounds.

Coming off a 3-2 win at Fairview West on Saturday, the Wildcats held the Hounds off the board in a 3-0 road win in Wilcox.

For the second straight game, the Wildcats started off the contest with a scoreless first frame, though again, momentum definitely was there.

"I thought basically we were in control of the game from start to finish," said head coach Terry Pavely. "Probably after the first period, even though the shots were 8-8, I thought we had the quality chances the first two shifts of the game - we had a couple glorious chances. Their goalie made some saves, but we stuck with our gameplan, and I thought we executed it pretty well again. I think we gave up one odd-man rush today."

Then, following the same offensive formula as Saturday's game, Swift Current posted two goals in the middle frame.

An even three minutes in, forward Carissa Hogan rounded out a strong passing display on the powerplay with a goal camped out at the back post.

"We got our top unit out with 1:09 left in that powerplay and they moved it around. We had a play back-door, and she had an empty net basically to bury it," Pavely noted on a play that saw Taylor Lind and Sara Kendall record assists.

Then, with 9:29 remaining in the second, Crystal Wale walked out to the slot untouched from the right side boards, ripping a shot five-hole for a 2-0 lead.

Swift Current's lone real test in the game came the first five minutes of the third period, as the Hounds gave some serious push back, trying to trim their deficit on home ice.

"That was the only time they got any sustained pressure, and they really pushed hard," said Pavely. "When we collapsed to the net we make it a little bit tougher for pucks to get through. Our goalie made a couple saves when she needed to. Not that they were high quality chances, but they were chances, and she steered the rebounds into the corner. There weren't loose pucks hanging around the slot. There was one scrum, but we did such a good job of tying up sticks and battling that loose puck, that we didn't give them a second opportunity."

After an empty-net goal from Lind with 1:54 to play gave the Wildcats the 3-0 win, Pavely discussed what was a very cohesive effort by his team this weekend.

"We didn't have any passengers, everybody was on-board, and we were all going in the same direction," he said. "That's got to be the big thing for us now, we've got to make sure we all stay on board. We'll have to make sure as coaches that we're a little bit tighter, and we're making sure that this is our gameplan, and if you're not willing to play the gameplan we've got, then you can't play. Today we didn't have to have any of those discussions about any players, because they were all on board. Hopefully we learn from that, because for five out of six periods, we were the better team. The results showed that if you play, for the most part, full games, you have a chance to win."

Swift Current now stands at 5-6-0-1 through 12 games this season, and a big weekend performance by goalie Amaya Giraudier aided the Wildcats' effort to rack up six points.

Pavely spoke on Giraudier's performance, after stopping 20 of 22 shots on Saturday, and all 18 on Sunday for the pair of Ws.

Off from league play this coming weekend, the Wildcats will be back in Wilcox and Milestone for the annual Mandi Schwartz Memorial Tournament.
