Coming into the weekend losing the previous four games by a combined five goals, the Diamond Energy Female Midget AAA Wildcats knew they needed to create and capitalize on their scoring chances.

That certainly proved to be the result, as the Wildcats swept the Battlefords Sharks this weekend at Fairview West arena, out-shooting the Sharks 89-38, and out-scoring them 13-4 in two games.

In Saturday's game, a 6-3 win, the Wildcats and Sharks were tied 1-1 after the first period on a power-play goal from Taylor Lind, despite Swift out-shooting Battlefords 16-2.

The Wildcats got some breathing room in the second period, with goals from Carissa Hogan, Lind again, and Layne Hryhoriw, who scored the eventual game-winning-goal against her former team.

"I mean I came from Battlefords last year so I really wanted to beat them really bad," Hryhoriw, a native of Warman, said. "I think we did pretty well overall, and we've got to come out hard tomorrow and pick up another W."

Swift took a 4-2 lead into the third period, where goals from both Trista Labarowski and Lind yet again secured the victory for the Wildcats, at least in terms of scoring.

"We only gave up 20 shots, but way too many good scoring chances. The positive was, with the puck, we were dynamite tonight but we've still got to get better without the puck," said Wildcats head coach Terry Pavely. "That's going to be the message for tomorrow - we're probably not going to have the same offensive output, so we need to be better defensively."

His team seemed to respond to the message exceptionally well Sunday afternoon as, after trailing 1-0 through the first period, the Wildcats dominated on both ends of the ice.

Lind and Sara Kendall both put goals on the board in the second to swing the lead back in Swift's favour, before the lead ballooned heavily in the third.

Lind and Kendall each scored again to lead 4-1, then in the final 2:20 of the game, Hryhoriw added two goals and Hogan put one past the Sharks' netminder to clinch a resounding 7-1 win.

"There were lots of openings, all the girls - all we did was move our feet, work hard, and the points were coming," said Lind.

"You know as the game went on, we got really good defensively and we kind of stuck with the plan. When we play teams that we feel we're better then, that's when we make sure that we do is limit their chances," Pavely added. "The shots were pretty similar to yesterday for them, but way fewer good scoring opportunities - that's the difference today."

Wildcats' goaltender Harper Davey said on a night where Swift out-shot Battlefords 44-18, the offensive assistance made it a comfortable game.

"It's pretty nice knowing that we're up a few, like I still have to worry, but not as much as in a tight game," she said while adding that after going 0-3-0-1 in the last four games, the weekend sweep was key. "It's huge to bounce back and get two W's this weekend, just to know that we're still in it and we still can do it - huge weekend for us."

The Wildcats (6-6-0-2) saw multi-point weekends from nine players on the weekend.

Lind led the way with nine (5 G, 4 A) and was followed by Hryhoriw (3 G, 2 A), Hogan (2 G, 2 A), Labarowski (1 G, 3 A), Kendall (2 G), Taylor Kirwan (2 A), Kenedee Klevgaard (2 A), Brooklyn Colborn (2 A), and Brynne Doerksen (2 A).

The Wildcats don't play another league game until a December 16-17 home set against the undefeated Saskatoon Stars (10-0-1-0).
